St George’s Hall Charitable Trust is proud to host this special exhibition, showcasing maquettes of a statue dedicated to Mary Seacole (1805–1881), the pioneering nurse, healer, and humanitarian whose courage and compassion saved countless lives.

Mary Seacole’s story is one of resilience and service. Born in Jamaica, she overcame prejudice to bring her skills to the battlefields of the Crimean War, where she became known as “Mother Seacole” to soldiers in need. Her legacy continues to inspire generations, reminding us of the power of care, determination, and humanity.

This exhibition invites you to explore the artistic journey behind the creation of a permanent marble statue of Mary Seacole, planned for installation in the Great Hall of St George’s Hall. The maquettes on display represent the early stages of this monumental tribute; a vision of how Liverpool will honour her enduring contribution to history.
